Super Bowl-winning coach finds his next gig … on Pat McAfee’s show

Bill Belichick charted the post-NFL coaching path that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy now follows.

On Thursday, Pat McAfee announced that McCarthy will be a regular on his ESPN show via X/Twitter. The Super Bowl-winning coach will join “The Pat McAfee Show” every Thursday.

That’s right, not only will fans continue getting weekly Aaron Rodgers visits now, but his former Green Bay Packers coach, Mike McCarthy, is getting a weekly spot too.

The Cowboys parted ways with McCarthy last January after five seasons together. Following his dismissal, McCarthy was unable to land a third NFL head coaching job during the offseason.

To stay visible in the football world, he has turned to Pat McAfee’s show. Earlier this year, McCarthy appeared on McAfee’s NFL Draft Spectacular in Green Bay before ultimately agreeing to become a weekly guest.

McCarthy wasn’t a perfect coach, but he has a winning resume. He made the playoffs in three of his five seasons with the Cowboys. With the Packers, he reached the postseason in nine of 13 seasons and won the Super Bowl in 2010 — his lone appearance in that game. Overall, he is 174-112-2 in the regular season and 11-11 in the playoffs.

If his television career goes well, like Belichick, who completely revamped his persona on various appearances on ESPN, McCarthy could be back on the market for a coaching job next season. Belichick interviewed for multiple NFL openings before ultimately landing at the University of North Carolina this season.

McCarthy would probably like to stay in the NFL, but anything’s possible.
