Andre Onana has extra reason to quit Man Utd as quickly as possible, it would avoid unwanted distraction

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana faces an uncertain future at the club.

During his first two seasons at Manchester United, Andre Onana has been the Red Devils’ first choice goalkeeper.

But it is clear in 2025/26, his status has changed. Onana was not selected to start any of the three opening Premier League games, with Altay Bayindir preferred.

His one appearance in the Carabao Cup was a total disaster, with Onana making two errors in the loss to Grimsby before the shootout loss.

Now after the transfer deadline, the arrival of Senne Lammens could shunt Onana down to third choice.

Andre Onana still has options

Andre Onana has not been in any hurry to leave Manchester United despite being moved down the pecking order.

While the transfer deadline in the UK is closed, Onana still has an opportunity to move abroad, with foreign deadlines open.

The Turkish Super Lig transfer deadline is on September 12, while the Saudi Pro League deadline is on September 23.

There is time for Onana or Bayindir to make moves, if they decide it is in their interests. And according to one report, the Cameroon stopper could decide to make a swift exit.

Why leaving now is better for Onana

A new report in The Sun claims Manchester United will listen to offers for Onana and Bayindir, with neither in Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans.

The other sticking point in Onana’s season is that he is set to head away to the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon in January and February.

It is claimed that Onana does not want transfer talk in January to serve as a distraction for Cameroon, along with the logistical difficulties of making a move that month.

For that reason, Onana could decide to accept a more immediate offer this month to leave Manchester United.

Any new club would have to make peace with the fact they would end up missing Onana for several weeks in January.

United In Focus reported in early August that Manchester United were open to allowing Onana to leave on a loan deal if a goalkeeper was signed.

But right now it is hard to believe United would turn down a permanent offer for the number 24.
