Packers Star Receives Major Contract Prediction

The Green Bay Packers just handed Micah Parsons a massive four-year, $186 million contract extension upon acquiring him via trade with the Dallas Cowboys, which has some wondering which Packers players could be next in line for a new deal.

Quarterback Jordan Love landed his extension last year, and Green Bay also locked up offensive lineman Zach Tom back in July. After taking care of Parsons, could the Packers proceed to extend another defensive player?

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox thinks so, citing linebacker Quay Walker and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt - the former of whom is slated to hit free agency next March - as possibilities.

More specifically, Knox zeroed in on Walker.

"Walker's deal could come first, since the Packers declined his fifth-year option and exercised Wyatt's," Knox wrote. "The 25-year-old linebacker was sidelined following ankle surgery but came off the PUP list early in training camp. A couple of strong early-season performances could be enough to prove Walker is at 100 percent and earn him an extension."

When healthy, Walker has been terrific. He has racked up over 100 tackles in each of his first three NFL seasons, most recently tallying 102 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 13 games. The ankle issue is somewhat concerning, but as Knox noted, Green Bay surely wouldn't be making any decisions until it can be assured that Walker is perfectly fine.

The Packers selected Walker with the 22nd overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has gone on to develop into a key cog in Green Bay's defense ever since entering the league, and he figures to be a central force in the unit this year, as well.

Green Bay is a popular Super Bowl pick after bagging Parsons. The Packers don't really have any standout weaknesses outside of maybe cornerback, but they should have such a dynamic front seven that it may not matter.

Green Bay will face the Detroit Lions to open its season this Sunday.
