The Philadelphia Eagles aren't celebrating their season-opening win against the Dallas Cowboys very long as they still have work that needs to be done on the roster.
On social media, they announced that they have signed former New England Patriots wide receiver Javon Baker to the practice. To make room for him, the Eagles released 2025 sixth-round pick linebacker Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr.

Powell-Ryland was quiet primarily in training camp and preseason up until the last game against the New York Jets, where he got a sack and a forced fumble. He would ultimately be cut from the team and brought back to the practice squad.
Baker joins the Eagles, who are spending the preseason with the Patriots, after making one catch for 13 yards. He has caught one regular season pass for 12 yards in 11 career games. Baker has been linked to the Eagles since last week, when it was first reported that he would be signed, but Philly waited until after the Cowboys game to sign him.
Will Powell-Ryland be back on the Eagles soon?
The Eagles had higher expectations for Powell-Ryland, who flashed in that Jets game, but never really did anything to stick out like the other rookies did. To be fair to him, most of the backup pass rushers didn't really do anything to stand out during the preseason.
If it is any consolation, Pro Football Focus was a big fan of Powell-Ryland during the preseason. They gave him an overall grade of 90.2 in the preseason, and he was named to their All-Preseason Team.
It would be a total surprise to see Powell-Ryland not back on the practice squad soon. The Eagles have been playing roster gymnastics since the final roster cutdown, so this isn't the Eagles giving up all hope on him. He can still make an impact, but it will have to come most likely next year.
As for Baker, he could end up bouncing back and forth on the practice squad this year. The interesting part is why they would add another receiver when they already have players like Terrace Marshall and Elijah Cooks on the roster. Could he have a bigger role on the team than some might expect?

It's a long weekend for the Eagles since they played on Thursday so that more moves could be on the way.
