Report: Club come up with new plan to put Newcastle United off coming for their player again

Newcastle United tried to steal Jorgen Strand Larsen away from Wolves, but their efforts were in vain.

During the Magpies’ search for a striker, two bids were made for the Norway international. Newcastle offered £55million for Strand Larsen, but Wolves said no.

Wolves had no intention of selling Strand Larsen, despite Newcastle receiving encouragement from agents to make a move.

The transfer window slammed shut with the 25-year-old still at Molineux, while Eddie Howe added Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to his Newcastle United squad.

Now Wolves have got a new plan for Strand Larsen, having held their nerve despite being put under pressure to sell.

Wolves prepare Jorgen Strand Larsen contract offer

Having only just bought Strand Larsen permanently from Celta Vigo, Wolves are taking steps to ensure they keep the forward for many years to come.

According to BBC Sport, Wolves are going to open contract talks with Strand Larsen over a new deal.

The report states that they are ready to offer him improved terms, despite only signing a permanent contract with the club in July.

A new contract will protect Strand Larsen’s value even more, and underline his importance at Molineux. While Strand Larsen was keen to join Newcastle, Wolves were desperate to retain him.

They have done just that, and a new contract will make a future move to Newcastle even less likely.

In truth, the Magpies suddenly have no need for Strand Larsen. Woltemade will be Eddie Howe’s main striker moving forwards, while he is complemented by the Premier League-proven qualities of Wissa.

Unless one of them leaves in the next couple of years, Newcastle will not be in the market for a striker.

Wolves chairman speaks out on Newcastle United’s interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen

Following the closure of the summer transfer window, Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has spoken to the club’s official YouTube channel to reflect on their business.

He spoke about the speculation surrounding Strand Larsen’s future, making it crystal clear that Wolves were never going to let him leave.

“[We] never considered selling him in the window,” he said.

“He is a very good boy, very honest and also very generous.

“I have no doubts about him. Sometimes in the market every person has some chance in their career but I believe he will forget about it and commit to the team.

“We had a very good conversation with him. After he comes back from some small injuries he will be ready. I’m sure he will score a lot.”
