Talented Man Utd-linked star whom Ruben Amorim deeply admires‘refused several offers,’claims club president

A Manchester United target whom Ruben Amorim is all too familiar with made the decision to turn down a summer move away after speaking with his club hierarchy.

Ruben Amorim was able to strengthen key areas of his Manchester United first-team squad before the Premier League’s summer transfer window closed on Monday.

The Red Devils added an abundance of attacking firepower to their squad, with Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha all arriving at Old Trafford.

United have also invested for the long term and the Red Devils were able to announce the signing of Paraguayan wonderkid defender Diego Leon in July.

Ineos’ spending spree for Amorim’s United squad culminated on Monday with their fifth and final summer signing, with Senne Lammens being brought to Old Trafford.

Morten Hjulmand was subject to United’s interest and the 26-year-old Danish midfielder is familiar with the demands of playing under manager Ruben Amorim.

The Denmark international played under Amorim during the Portuguese coach’s reign at Sporting CP, with Morten Hjulmand ascending to the captaincy under him.

Amorim is a big admirer of Hjulmand and United were one of the clubs linked with him, but Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas praised the skipper for staying.

“What I witnessed this season, once again, is that Morten looked certain to be heading to Italy and I have to give him a word because our captain refused several offers to earn three times more, and after a conversation with the board, Morten agreed to stay for another year,” he told the Portuguese press on Thursday, as per Sport Witness.

“We kept Morten.”

Man Utd were linked with several midfield names alongside Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand in the summer transfer window

Morten Hjulmand was on the radar of United and several other clubs, including being linked with Premier League team Manchester City and Serie A side Juventus.

However, Sporting CP played hardball over any interest in the Danish midfielder after the Portuguese outfit sold Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal in the summer.

Hjulmand is under contract with the defending Primeira Liga champions until 2028 and the United-linked midfielder has a hefty £69m (€80m) release clause in his deal.

United had their name attached to different midfielders over the course of the summer, including Ederson, Richard Rios, Carlos Baleba and Wilfred Ndidi.
