The Man United star has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, despite being a regular starter.

Manchester United will be looking back on the transfer window with cautious optimism, as they were able to both strengthen their squad, and offload some players. However, the window is not yet done even though it has officially closed in England.

Both the Turkish league and the Saudi Pro League’s transfer windows are open for over a week, and so they can still sign players from the Premier League, and it seems that United stars are attracting interest.

Harry Maguire approached over Saudi move

Centre-back Harry Maguire has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, and looks set to be playing his last season in red. However, the Red Devils won’t get a return on him if they allow his contract to run out, so they could decide to sell him.

According to the Sun, Maguire has been approached by two Saudi Pro League clubs over a move, which he is reportedly willing to make. However, the caveat is that Maguire is only open to a move to Saudi Arabia at the end of the season after running down his contract.

The Red Devils rejected several approaches for him in the summer, and so there is clearly a mutual desire for Maguire to stick around at United. But his next move could be more obvious now, even though there has been previous interest from Premier League clubs.

Maguire remains a key player for United

Despite all the criticism around Maguire, he has been a reliable option for the Red Devils over the past few seasons, and Ruben Amorim has previously spoken out about his desire to keep Maguire in his squad.

The 32-year-old’s experience and leadership in defence could be vital this season, considering that United have seen a lot of squad changes over the summer, to have a constant is important for Amorim.

Former United centre-back Rio Ferdinand is a big admirer of the England international. Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand heaped a lot of praise on Maguire during the back end of last season when his form improved. He said: “Harry Maguire again, he was outstanding in the centre of that back three … he looked composed. What he isn’t doing, it seems now, he’s not questioning himself.”

Maguire is yet to start in the Premier League for United this season, however, due to Lisandro Martinez’s long-term injury, you would expect him to get some solid minutes in the coming months, especially as the fixture list becomes more and more congested heading into the winter.

If he doesn’t get the game time, then a sale in January could be on the cards, so that United are able to get some form of financial return on him before his contract expires at the end of the season.
