Manchester City have an 18-year-old player in their ranks who has just been deemed better than Everton’s Tyler Dibling.

Tyler Dibling was one of the most sought-after youngsters in English football this summer, with the Citizens among those who wanted to sign him from Southampton.

Man City were eyeing Dibling, along with the likes of Manchester United, but the 18-year-old eventually moved to Everton.

Now, a different youngster Manchester City signed over the past few months has been ranked higher than Dibling by the CIES Football Observatory.

Sverre Nypan ranked higher than Tyler Dibling

The player in question is Sverre Nypan, who joined Man City from Rosenborg in a deal worth around £12.5million.

Man City beat the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign Nypan, who was also among the most sought-after youngsters on the market.

The CIES Football Observatory has now published a chart of the 200 youngsters with the best CIES ratings for matches played in 2025.

Nypan has been given a rating of 75.7, while Dibling’s score is 72.2.

Indeed, Nypan also ranks higher than Giovanni Leoni, who recently joined Liverpool for around £26million plus add-ons.

As per the CIES website, the score for each of the players – all of whom are under 20 at the time of writing – is the average of two values.

The first is a performance index calculated from the data exclusively collected by CIES’ partners Impect.

The second is an experience index taking into account minutes played, weighted by the sporting level of the matches.

How Sverre Nypan is faring at Middlesbrough

Nypan joined Middlesbrough on loan from City this summer, so that he could gain experience in England’s second tier.

He made his debut off the bench in Boro’s 2-1 win over Norwich City before playing the second half of the 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

‘Played his part in ensuring Boro built on a solid first half to get the win,’ Teesside Live wrote of the “special” Nypan as they gave him a rating of 7 out of 10.

‘Played a role in the goal and was up for the battle when protecting it too.’

Nypan’s efforts have helped Boro soar to the top of the Championship table.
