Jamie Carragher grades Liverpool and Arsenal's start to the Premier League season as Reds sit on top

Liverpool have got off to the perfect start in the Premier League this season, with the Reds earning nine points from their first three games.

Although there were certainly some shaky moments during their opening games, the fact that they left all three with a win shows how determined they are this season.

Indeed, now that they’ve spent over £400million on new recruits, you’d expect nothing other than wins, but with how unpredictable the Premier League is, you never know what’s going to happen.

However, now that Alexander Isak is officially a Liverpool player, it raises the question of how much better he’s going to make their squad this term.

That is, if they can even get any better.

Jamie Carragher rates Liverpool’s start to the Premier League season a B+

Jamie Carragher has often been quite vocal about his opinions on Liverpool.

Most of the time, he ends up backing his former club, but there have been some instances this season where Carragher has questioned what some of their players have been doing.

For example, in Milos Kerkez’s Premier League debut for Liverpool, Carragher dubbed the left-back “aggressive” and said that he still had a lot to work on.

And now, when asked by Sky Sports about how high he’d grade the seasons Liverpool and Arsenal so far, the Englishman said the following: “Arsenal, I would go C, they’ve lost to Liverpool in the way that they normally lose games where they don’t create enough chances,” he said.

“As I said, they won at Old Trafford, not bad. Liverpool, I would go B+.

“Nine out of nine [points], obviously you can’t improve on that, but there’s still a bit of improvement to do in their performances.”

Liverpool must keep up their current run of form in the Premier League

At the moment, it’s clear that Liverpool are the team to beat this season.

Even before they made all of their new signings, Arne Slot’s men were seen as the most likely to win the Premier League title in the 2025-26 season.

However, now that they’ve had a massive turnover of their players, anything but a title win will likely be seen as a failure.

Players such as Isak and Florian Wirtz now form part of Slot’s first-team squad, and with quality like that among their ranks, no other teams should be able to get close to them this term.

Indeed, they also have the Champions League to think about, but with the strength in depth they now have, that should also be a breeze.

That is, at least you’d hope so.
