Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million move from Manchester United to Chelsea has not gone down quietly. Top pundits slammed the winger’s behaviour since he departed Old Trafford, criticising his antics on and off the field. Former players Jamie Carragher and Paul Parker – as well as Simon Jordan – have all taken their aim, putting Garnacho under a microscope even before his Chelsea career has started.
Carragher and Parker lead criticism
Jamie Carragher was left fuming after Garnacho was spotted glued to his phone during Chelsea’s clash with Fulham, branding it unacceptable. “I can’t stand it. And it’s not just him by the way, but I can’t stand it,” Carragher said on Sky Sports, questioning the winger’s focus.
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker also piled on. He labelled Garnacho “disrespectful” and claimed the youngster was living off his overhead kick against Everton, which he described as a fluke that came “off his shin.” Parker argued the Argentine cared more about viral moments than building consistency at United.
Garnacho’s social media behaviour has further fuelled the storm. Garnacho posted a cryptic “Finally” on Instagram after signing for Chelsea, which annoyed United fans, while he wore a Marcus Rashford Aston Villa shirt before leaving Old Trafford, and many saw it as a dig at his former club.
TalkSPORT’s Simon Jordan went even harder, calling Garnacho a “little runt” and insisting United were right to “drop-kick him” out of the team. Critics argue these antics highlight immaturity rather than ambition.
Author’s Opinion
Alejandro Garnacho is talented but the circus surrounding him is taking the focus off his football. Carragher’s rage and Parker’s blunt language show patience is wearing thin. If he wants to thrive at Chelsea, Garnacho must prove himself with performances—not Instagram posts or touchline distractions.
