Leeds United suffer blow in their pursuit of 29-year-old free agent midfielder as move snubbed

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of former Burnley midfield star Josh Brownhill.

According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United were keen on acquiring the services of free-agent Josh Brownhill. While they did table an offer to lure him, the former Burnley mainstay has decided to move to the Middle East instead.

Brownhill made a name for himself at Bristol City before joining the Clarets at the start of 2020. He went from strength to strength after joining the Lancashire outfit and was one of their standout performers in recent seasons.

He was involved in a total of 42 Championship games and ended up contributing towards 24 goals. Brownhill played a massive role in their promotion to the top flight. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, he did wonders for them irrespective of the role he was deployed in.

Burnley were keen on handing him a new lucrative deal, but he turned it down. The 29-year-old decided to run down his deal and become a free agent. Since he parted ways with the Clarets, multiple clubs from the Premier League and Championship have knocked on his door.

Leeds fail to sign free-agent Brownhill

However, Brownhill hasn’t rushed into any decision. He has taken his time before deciding on the next step in his career. Leeds United were one of the clubs that were keen on signing the former Burnley star. Daniel Farke wasn’t pleased with how they finished the transfer window.

Having missed out on a few key targets, Leeds were hoping to snap up the versatile Brownhill. While they did approach him and were prepared to offer a significant contract, the English midfielder has opted to join Al Shadab instead.

He has agreed to a deal with the Saudi Pro League side, which is a massive blow for Farke’s team. Brownhill is set to sign a contract worth over £100,000 per week. Seen as a great opportunity from the free-agent market, the midfielder ultimately slipped away, with Leeds unable to compete with the financial power of Middle Eastern clubs.
