Cardi B Reveals Why She Turned Down The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Cardi B has confirmed that she was offered a spot on one of the biggest stages in entertainment, the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but she decided the timing was not right.

In a new interview with Billboard, the Grammy winner revealed that she passed on the opportunity because she wants to wait until she feels ready both musically and personally. “I got asked to do the Super Bowl and I denied it,” Cardi admitted. She added that her goal is to step onto that stage when she knows she can deliver a performance that will dominate. “If I get to do it, I’m going to have more hits and I’m going to eat that up.”

This is not the first time Cardi has walked away from the Halftime spotlight. In 2019, she also turned down the chance to perform at Super Bowl LIII. That decision was made out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who took a stand against racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem. At the time, Cardi explained that she could not take the stage while standing with his cause.

Now, her reasoning comes from a different place. Cardi is waiting for the perfect moment when her catalog and vision align with the magnitude of the Super Bowl platform. For her, it is not about the invitation, it is about being prepared to give fans a halftime show they will never forget.
