NBA projects higher salary cap for 2026-27 season

NBA has raised the projected salary cap for the 2026-27 season from $165 million to $166 million.

The NBA has informed teams that the projected salary cap for the 2026-27 season has increased slightly, rising from $165 million to $166 million, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

While the $1 million increase may seem minor, it could influence teams’ planning for free agency and contract negotiations next summer.

Roster decisions, contract extensions, and luxury-tax projections may all be slightly adjusted to account for the higher cap.

Historically, the NBA salary cap has seen steady growth as league revenues have expanded.

For instance, the cap was $3.6 million in 1984-85, jumped to $15.9 million ten years later, and reached $43.9 million a decade after that.

By the 2014-15 season, it had grown to $63.1 million. The most significant spike occurred before the 2016-17 season, when the cap rose to $94 million following a massive $24-billion media rights deal with ESPN and TNT.
