Micah Parsons is officially questionable to play in the Packers' Week 1 clash against the Lions

The Green Bay Packers are riding high as they prepare for Week 1 of the 2025 campaign. After acquiring superstar linebacker Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys last week, the Packers have seen themselves go from being a playoff contender to one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year.

And yet, while Green Bay is thrilled to have landed Parsons, there’s no guarantee that he will make his debut for the team in Week 1. With Parsons battling a back injury as he ramps up for the new season, the team announced his official injury designation for their upcoming clash with the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Micah Parsons Questionable for Packers’ Week 1 Action

Heading into the final year of his rookie deal, Parsons made it clear this offseason he wanted a new contract from the Cowboys. With negotiations stalling early in August, Parsons requested a trade, and to the shock of the entire league, general manager Jerry Jones granted his request, sending him to the Packers in exchange for a pair of first-round draft picks and veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

Green Bay immediately handed Parsons a four-year, $186 million contract extension, with the hope being that he can be the final piece that pushes their team over the top. Considering how he’s racked up 52.5 sacks, four Pro Bowl and two All-Pro First Team selections, and the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in just four seasons in the pros, Parsons seems like a safe bet to produce for the Packers.

Of course, he has to be on the field in order to do so, which has made his injury status worth monitoring over the past couple of days. Parsons has reportedly been dealing with a bothersome back injury during the summer, and after logging three limited practices during the week, the team has listed him as questionable to play in Week 1.

“Packers are listing LB Micah Parsons as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Lions due to his back injury,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X.

Despite concerns about his injury status, reports have indicated that Parsons is in line to play for Green Bay in Week 1. Since it’s only the first game of the season, the Packers likely aren’t going to push Parsons if he isn’t ready to play, but if he gets the green light from the team’s medical staff, you can bet he’s going to suit up for this one.

Considering how Green Bay is set to take on Detroit, they may need Parsons on the field if they want to come out on top. More information on Parsons’ status should come out ahead of the game, but fans will have to check back in before the team’s 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday afternoon in order to find out whether or not the former Cowboys star will be making his debut with his new squad.
