For the second year in a row, the NFL will host a regular season game in Brazil. This year, Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo will host a divisional matchup between two AFC West contenders: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers.
The NFL’s first game in Brazil came in 2024, when the Philadelphia Eagles opened their Super Bowl-winning season with a 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles went on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Kansas City is led by one of the best — if not the best — players in the league in QB Patrick Mahomes, who is already on a trajectory to be one of the greatest players of all time. At 29, Mahomes has won three Super Bowls and two NFL MVPs. He's one of only five quarterbacks in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls as a starter, is second with 17 playoff wins in his career, and is tied for second all-time with Joe Montana with three Super Bowl MVP awards.
The Chiefs' consistent brilliance has kept them at the top of the NFL for years, a run that includes a streak of seven straight AFC Championship game appearances and nine consecutive AFC West titles. While a lot of this can be attributed to Mahomes, Kansas City has plenty of other stars to boast, including Travis Kelce, who holds the NFL record for the most consecutive seasons with 1,000 receiving yards by a tight end and has the most postseason receiving yards in NFL history. The Chiefs have more premium players in Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, Creed Humphrey, and others.
On the other side is the Los Angeles Chargers, who enter year two of Jim Harbaugh's tenure looking to rival the Chiefs for the division title. The Chargers are aiming to improve on a 2024 season that saw them go 11-6 and spiral out in the divisional round against the Houston Texans.

Los Angeles made significant roster changes in the offseason, which included adding Najee Harris in free agency and selecting Omarion Hampton from North Carolina to help establish a run game —a key part of Harbaugh's coaching philosophy. The Chargers also brought back a familiar face in Keenan Allen, who will join Ladd McConkey in an improved wide receiver room. Los Angeles did lose superstar edge rusher Joey Bosa, but still have Khalil Mack and Derwin James Sr. leading the defense.
With superstar quarterback Justin Herbert under center, Harbaugh and co. look to challenge the Chiefs for the AFC West title, and they get a chance to make a statement in Week 1 in Brazil.
