Howie Roseman may have quietly already landed the next Zack Baun

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is probably already on his way to "statue" status at some point down the line. He's created a legacy in Philadelphia to the point that he certainly won't have to pay for another meal in Philly ever again.

It's not just the blockbuster moves for Roseman, either. The Eagles obviously do well with their high draft selections and big-ticket free agent pickups or trade acquisitions, but part of the reason they have been so good for the majority of the last 10 years is how Roseman and his front office staff find diamonds in the rough.

We saw the Eagles do it last year by bringing in former Saints third-round pick Zack Baun, an edge rusher and special teams player, and morphing him into a Defensive Player of the Year candidate as a stack linebacker. And now, it looks like they might have found another stud reclamation project.

Josh Uche has impressive debut for Eagles in win vs. Cowboys

Josh Uche last night:

- 18 pass-rush snaps

- 4 pressures (team lead)

- 43.8 pass rush win % (team lead)

It's not like Josh Uche is a "nobody" out there, by any stretch of the imagination. But like Zack Baun, he's a former Day 2 draft selection (60th overall in 2020) who either hasn't been able to string together a lot of productive games in recent years or live up to the expectations heaped upon him.

Uche was a star at Michigan before being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2020, and he had a huge breakout year back in 2022 with 11.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hits. He has shown an ability to rush the passer at a high level in the NFL before, but was cut loose last year by the Patriots and their new regime (which is also gone now).

He was picked up for a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, who also didn't get the most out of him in his short time with the franchise.

Out of the 19 total snaps Uche played against the Cowboys, 18 were pass rush snaps and he had the highest pass rush win rate out of anyone on the team. Considering Jalen Carter wasn't in the game, Uche's pass rush win rate of nearly 44 percent is even more impressive.

He didn't have any official QB hits or sacks, but everyone who watched the game could see that Vic Fangio and this Eagles defense might have a little something cooking off the edge. Especially with a significant exodus from the building this offseason, it must feel great for the Eagles to see a free agent lottery ticket like this perform well immediately to open the season.

Again, Uche has a history of production with 11.5 sacks and 14 QB hits in 2022, which feels like forever ago, but this guy is just 26 years old. He's still got a chance to reestablish himself as a big-time pass rusher, even if it's just in rotation.
