The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Rakim Jarrett for a visit on Friday, according to the NFL transaction sheet.
Jarrett was released by the Buccaneers in August during final cuts after spending the last two seasons with the team on their active roster. A slot receiver primarily, he has 14 receptions over his first two NFL season.
Jarrett was an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in the 2023 NFL Draft. He came out a year early after being a five-star recruit who stayed local in Maryland. During his time with the Terrapins, Jarrett shined as one of the best wide receivers in the entire Big 10.
In his Sophomore season, he had over 800 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He dealt with inconsistent quarterback play there that led to some rocky games, but showcased enough as an undrafted free agent to make the Buccaneers roster for two seasons.
Part of that is Jarrett can also play special teams. He did not immediately sign a contract with the Steelers, but could be back on the practice squad over the next few weeks. The Steelers often host players for visits and tryouts to have an itinerary of players they can call in case of injury.
