The Kansas City Chiefs are in Brazil for their 2025 season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, September 5.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce initially seemed less than thrilled about traveling for the international matchup during the May 14 episode of “New Heights.”
“There’s just something about getting close to the equator, I don’t want to put on a football uniform. I’ve been in Jacksonville in September, that’s [expletive] miserable,” he said. “I’d rather it be dry than humid, I’m a sweaty guy. If it is humid, I am going to be miserable. But we’re going to find a way to get a win.”
Kelce later apologized if his comments were misconstrued. “I’m a furry son of the [expletive]. Me and heat just don’t do well together,” the 10-time Pro Bowler clarified. “So I apologize if it came off that I’m not excited about this. I’m still excited. I’m just going to be doing some wardrobe changes throughout the game.
“Shout-out to everybody down in Brazil. Can’t wait to get down there. Sorry if it came off as I’m not excited, because I am. We got a huge challenge with the Los Angeles Chargers, baby.”
Kelce, who arrived for the game in a very stylish suit, looked nothing but happy to be back on the field during pregame warmups. Fans are waiting to see if his fiancée, Taylor Swift, makes it to Corinthians Arena for the Week 1 showdown. While a previous report from BCharts last month claimed that the pop star planned to attend the game, multiple outlets shared an update on her status just hours before kickoff.

Shortly after the Chiefs arrived at the stadium, TV Globo reported that Swift planned to attend the primetime matchup in person. TV Globo’s report followed SCCP News’ announcement that Swift was en route to the arena.
Series Brasil also reported that the 14-time Grammy winner “is in Brazil for tonight’s game.”
Of course, until there are photos or videos of Swift’s arrival, fans remain dubious of any report. However, a source told People in June that Swift plans to attend “as many of his games as possible” this season.
“Taylor is really looking forward to the upcoming NFL season. Not just because she loves supporting Travis, but because for the first full season since they started dating, she’s not juggling a packed tour schedule.
“This fall will be completely different. It’s the first season where she’s not constantly flying back and forth or working around an entire touring calendar.”

Swift attended her first Chiefs game in October 2023, shortly after the famous couple started dating. During that season, Kansas was 10-3 with Swift in attendance, including a Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Last season, the Chiefs were 9-1 when Swift was watching the team play in person, the sole loss being their blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
