Patrick Mahomes moves past quarterbacking legend with latest accomplishment

SAO PAULO (KCTV) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes started his ninth season in the NFL by making more history.

With a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce, Mahomes surpassed Pro Football Hall-of-Fame quarterback Dan Marino for most touchdown passes before the age of 30. The touchdown cut the Chiefs’ deficit to 20-18.

Mahomes’ 246th career regular season passing touchdown comes just under two weeks before he will turn 30, with his birthday falling on Sept. 17.

Despite only starting one game as a rookie, Mahomes surpassed Marino for this record in his 113th career game. Marino played 121 career regular season games before turning 30.

Mahomes, a two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP, has thrown 246 touchdowns and 74 interceptions over the eight seasons he’s started. The Texas Tech product quickly made up for the 0 touchdowns thrown as a rookie by throwing for 50 touchdowns and more than 5,000 yards during his first season as a starter.

Just shy of his 30th birthday, Mahomes is already the Chiefs all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He set both of those records last season.
