Arsenal Told £64m Is Not "Strong Enough" To Be The Difference Amid "Very Difficult" Claim

Arsenal have been told by former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor that Viktor Gyokeres hasn’t shown enough yet.

The Gunners had a monumental transfer window, addressing several positions in attack, midfield and defence, however their biggest signing was striker Viktor Gyokeres, who cost £64m from Sporting CP, a similar fee to what Newcastle paid for Nick Woltemade last week.

Gyokeres struggled in the opening game against Man United, but he did score twice against Leeds, impressing many Arsenal fans, and perhaps showing a glimpse of what he could do for the Gunners this season.

However, in the third game of the season, the Swedish striker was quiet again, and Arsenal failed to score in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, leaving many questioning whether he will be the answer to the Gunners’ prayers up front this season under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal told Gyokeres may not be “strong enough”

Following the Liverpool game, former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor said that he didn’t look strong enough, and it looks difficult for Gyokeres at the moment.

He said on talkSPORT: “He didn’t look strong enough, hasn’t got that yard of pace for me that you need in the Premier League. Will he score goals? Yes he will. In all competitions, there’s no reason why he can’t get 15/20 goals, but I look at him, and will he be the difference in those big games when you’re playing in the knockout stages of the Champions League, I’m not sure.”

However, despite the criticism so far, the former Aston Villa striker said that it is still early days, and the 26-year-old could come good for the Gunners this season.

“I look at Gyokeres,” he added, “and it’s looking very difficult at the moment, but, it’s still early on, maybe he’s not up to full match fitness.”
