Wolves have let the attacker head out the exit door for a fresh start following Vitor Pereira decision
Wolves have had a tricky start to the new Premier League season. They have lost their first three fixtures against Manchester City, AFC Bournemouth and Everton. The Midlands side will be hoping to hit some form after the international break.
Vitor Pereira was picked as their head coach during the last campaign to replace Gary O’Neil. He has since made a positive impression at Molineux. However, despite keeping them up last term, it could be a struggle to do the same again this time around if they don’t change their fortunes.
Sasa Kalajdzic reacts to Wolves exit
Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic has joined LASK on loan. The Austrian club have beaten their deadline to seal a deal. He travelled over for a medical and has now completed the switch.
Kalajdzic, 28, was linked with West Brom earlier this week as the Baggies scoured for attacking targets. However, a switch to The Hawthorns didn’t materialise for him in the end. He stayed put beyond the English deadline on Monday but that has opened the door for his new team to swoop in.
Speaking after his departure, he has said, as per La Ola: “I’m very happy to be here. This was the best solution for everyone involved; both clubs resolved this very quickly. It’s important for me to get match practice, and Wolverhampton have supported me a lot in this.
“I just want to enjoy football, stay healthy, get as many minutes as possible, and consistently perform at a good level. LASK can offer me that. We have a good team and a good environment; I know some of the players from my past, and I’ve only heard good things about them.”
New challenge for Sasa Kalajdzic after Wolves
The Austria international, who has 19 caps under his belt, joined Wolves in 2022 for £15 million. However, he hasn’t managed to live up to expectations. He has made only 14 appearances, finding the net on three occasions.
He was loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2024 before missing the entirety of last season with an ACL injury. Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye at Stuttgart. He fired 24 goals in 60 outings for the Bundesliga club.
Kalajdzic needs regular game time so a return to his homeland with LASK makes sense. They should be able to offer him regular minutes. He was very unlikely to get many opportunities at Wolves under Pereira.
He said in an interview earlier this year with 90 Minuten:“Of course, a top five league is always the goal: Spain, Italy, for example. But it depends on the club whether it’s just the right fit. You can play in the best league in the world but get completely hammered in the last game – that doesn’t help either. It just has to be right: in terms of the playing system, the coach, the sporting director. I know I’m not in a position where I have much choice, because clubs often think twice or three times about it due to my injury history. That’s perfectly legitimate. But I feel great, stronger than ever. I’m full of energy.”
Wolves are back in action next weekend against Newcastle United. Their upcoming opponents drew 0-0 with Leeds United in their last game and have replaced Alexander Isak with Nick Woltemade. Pereira will be desperate to see a reaction from his players.
