CANTON, Miss. (WLBT) - Canton High School’s football stadium now has a new name.
The stadium now bears the name of four-time Super Bowl champion and alumnus L.C. Greenwood.
A ceremony was held on Friday to celebrate the name change and to also honor Greenwood’s legacy.
In 1991, Greenwood was named to the Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team and in 2007 he was named to the Steelers All-Time Team.
After his athletic career, Greenwood went into business.
He started several companies in coal, construction, engineering, and packaging.
At 67 years old, Greenwood died from kidney failure.
Greenwood’s son explained what this honor means for their family.
“It’s a good and sad occasion, of course,” said Fernendo Greenwood, son of L.C. Greenwood. “I really wish my dad was here so he could witness this, but just to have his name to live on. Not just being the L.C. Greenwood Stadium, but Greenwood as a whole. We’re honored for that to happen to us.”
