Having concluded their business in the summer transfer window, the FC Barcelona Sporting Department is now expected to turn its attentions to another important task, i.e., [the renewals of important players whose contracts are expiring in 2026](https://semprebarca.com/deco-still-has-unfinished-business-at-barcelona-after-transfer-window/).
In this regard, the club is treating the renewals of the midfielder Frenkie de Jong and the defender Eric Garcia as a priority. For now, [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20250904/1002526177/intensifacn-contactos-renovar-jong.html) reports that the Blaugranes are looking to intensify their negotiations with the Dutch midfielder, and have already held a round of talks for this purpose recently.
The Dutchman’s current contract ends in less than a year, and Joan Laporta is particularly repulsive to see a player as important as him in this situation. As things stand, both parties are willing to extend their commitment, and have expressed this desire, both publicly and privately.
Negotiations have dragged on so far as the process of separating De Jong from his previous agent, Ali Dursun, proved to be more difficult than previously expected.
Now, talks have already taken place with his new agent, regarding the duration of the new contract and its financial parameters, and the player will have to reduce his salary to continue with Barcelona.
The Blaugranes are offering Frenkie a new contract till 2028, which will have the option to be extended till 2029, and are confident the player will accept these terms. For now, it remains to be seen how this operation develops, and when the two parties will put pen to paper to officially extend their commitment.
