Man City will be buzzing over 18-year-old's progress so far, could be worth £60m-plus in a few…

Manchester City have plenty of exciting youngsters in their ranks, and there’s a good chance some of them will go on to become first-teamers at City or elsewhere.

The dream is obviously for a Manchester City academy graduate to become a regular starter for club and country, much like Phil Foden.

However, even if they don’t become regular starters for whatever reason, the next best thing for player and club is a move to a top suitor for big money.

One 18-year-old who City signed just this summer is already showing plenty of signs that he can go very far indeed in his footballing career.

Sverre Nypan showing plenty of promise for club and country

This summer, Man City landed one of the best young players in world football when they snapped Sverre Nypan up from Rosenborg.

Man City beat the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign Nypan from the Norwegian club before loaning him out to Middlesbrough, and he is already showing plenty of promise.

Nypan has already made a big impact at Boro, with GRV Media chief correspondent and Boro fan Graeme Bailey confirming that he is thought of very highly on Teesside.

“Nypan has made a fabulous impression in his short space of time on Teesside,” said Bailey.

“I am told he has taken to life with Boro like a duck to water – he has been outstanding in everything he has done thus far.”

And at international level, Nypan scored his first Norway Under-21s goal, which proved to be the winner against Denmark’s U21s in their Thursday night friendly.

Manchester City will hope Sverre Nypan can reach Martin Odegaard’s levels

Nypan has been compared to Martin Odegaard, and not just because they are both Norwegian.

There are certainly some similarities in their respective playing styles, including technical ability, creativity, passing, and controlling the tempo from midfield.

Although Odegaard cost Arsenal just £30million, he is now said to be worth around £60million by the CIES Football Observatory, and around £80million by Transfermarkt.

Should Nypan go on to reach the levels reached by Odegaard and Erling Haaland, the £12.5million paid by City will seem like an absolute steal, as his value would increase manifold.
