Player gives very honest admission about deadline day fail at Leeds United

There is no doubt that Leeds United fluffed their lines on transfer deadline day. After seeing how the team started the season, and the fact that Daniel Farke called for reinforcements, the solution was clear.

Leeds have scored one goal from open play in four matches so far, which should be a huge concern for everyone involved. Many expected one attacking signing to come through the door on Monday night, only for the club to come up short. After the long list of targets this summer, it came as a shock when Fulham’s Harry Wilson was the subject of a late bid on deadline day.

Eventually the deal fell through and the club were found wanting after the deadline. Club chief Robbie Evans explained what happened during the transfer process:

“It’s pretty straightforward in that we had a player targeted, and it didn’t come through. We thought we had the right price. We put the offer in above that price, the player was on board. Club couldn’t get it done. Their club couldn’t get it done.”

With the international break in full flow, a total of 10 Leeds United players have been called up this week. Gabriel Gudmundsson was called up by Sweden for their upcoming qualifiers. The defender spoke to Sky Sports on his start to life in West Yorkshire.

When quizzed about the lack of signings on deadline day, Gudmundsson replied:

“It’s a question for the club, but I’m really satisfied with what we’ve got in the squad. You can also see that we’ve got four points against three very decent teams. I’m happy so far. Let’s see what the outcome is.”

Would Harry Wilson have made a difference?

Wilson is a top player with a lot of experience in the Premier League. He also comes with fantastic ability to deliver from deadball. The Fulham man could have been very useful in the team, just like Joe Rothwell was last season. And especially with the pending hire of a new set-piece coach, Leeds could have had a real weapon to use in the Premier League.
