Newcastle United saw two bids rejected for the Wolves striker before securing £124m double swoop.
The striker situation dominated the Magpies’ summer and it wasn’t until the remaining few days of the transfer window that it was resolved.
Isak was sold to Liverpool for £130million and Newcastle used to funds to sign Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69m from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa joined from Brentford for £55m.
Prior to that, the Magpies missed out on several deals, including Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.
Wolves chairman comments on Newcastle United interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen
During the final fortnight of the window, Newcastle also had bids of £50m and £55m turned down by Wolves for Strand Larsen, who expressed his desire to make the move but didn’t want to kick up a fuss out of respect for his current employers.
Strand Larsen only joined the Molineux club permanently for £23m in July, following a successful loan spell from Celta Vigo last season.
For all Newcastle’s efforts, Wolves chairman Shi insists he never considered selling the Norway international.
Shi said: “Jorgen is one of the most important players in the squad. He can be better of course, he scored 14 goals [last season], I hope he can score 20 goals this season, so it’s very important to keep him here.

“But also, we had a very good conversation with him. After the window shuts, he will come back from his small injury and be ready again. I am sure he will score a lot this season.
“Hopefully he can improve to be a top, top striker in the league and in the world, and also to help the team achieve something special in this season.
“No, we never considered selling him in the window. Jorgen is a very good boy, very honest and also very generous. He is a team player for sure, I have no doubts about him.
“Sometimes in the market every person has some chance in their career but I believe 100% he will forget about it and commit to the team immediately.”
Jorgen Strand Larsen set for St James’ Park visit
Strand Larsen missed Wolves’ last game, a 3-2 home defeat to Everton, due to an Achilles injury but it is hoped he’ll be involved for the visit to St James’ Park after the international break.
Vítor Pereira’s side have lost all three Premier League matches so far, while Newcastle are looking for their first victory - now they have the luxury of an experienced striker - of the campaign after goalless draws away to Aston Villa and Leeds United, and a late 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.
