Andrée Jeglertz has provided a rough timescale on the returns of Aoba Fujino, Rebecca Knaak and Kerolin, and spoken about Alex Greenwood and Lily Murphy’s injuries.
Our new Head Coach’s first competitive match in charge ended in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, despite City carving out several good chances at Stamford Bridge.
And late injuries to Alex Greenwood and Lily Murphy meant our WSL opener ended on a sour note.
Jeglertz admitted that he hadn’t yet had the chance to properly speak with either Alex or Lily to determine the extent of their respective issues at the time of his post-match press conference.
When asked if he could provide an update, he said: “Unfortunately, not. I just saw Lily leaving the stadium and haven’t talked much with Alex yet.
CASPARIJ: STAY CALM AND BUILD ON POSITIVES
“She [Lily] was in pain, but I don’t know what the issue was. We weren’t able to talk yet afterwards.”
City were also without Knaak, Kerolin and Fujino for our WSL curtain-raiser, but Jeglertz is hopeful that they could be back in the near future.
Knaak sustained a meniscus injury in Germany’s Euro 2025 semi-final defeat to Spain but was back in individual training last week.
Kerolin and Fujino, meanwhile, are yet to return to action, and while the boss wouldn’t put a specific timescale on each of their recoveries, he suggested it won’t be long until they’re available for selection.
“I can’t say weeks, but I think hopefully some of them will be coming back soon.”
