Lakers expected to improve lineup with trade package including their stretch big

NBA writer believes the Los Angeles Lakers could trade a combo package including forward Maxi Kleber and guard Gabe Vincent ahead of the 2025-26 trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering another season with high expectations, keeping championship aspirations in mind.

Many still believe, however, that the Lakers are at least a couple of pieces away from being a legitimate title contender, especially in a tough Western Conference.

As usual, the Lakers are expected to be active around the trade deadline. According to reports, GM Rob Pelinka is focused on acquiring a proven player who could immediately help the team, with two players viewed as the most realistic trade pieces.

FanSided NBA writer Svyatoslav Rovenchuk believes the Lakers’ most likely trade candidates ahead of the February deadline are forward Maxi Kleber and guard Gabe Vincent, both of whom could attract interest due to their expiring contracts.

"A combo package of Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleber to secure an upgrade within the Lakers’ rotation would be Pelinka's dream," Rovenchuk wrote Thursday.

"Those deals will be available before the NBA trade deadline when other teams start to budge on their resolve for the immediate future."

"Vincent and Kleber are both on expiring contracts, and that should have some appeal on the trade market closer to February," he added.

Vincent struggled in his first season with the Lakers, averaging 6.4 points and 1.4 assists per game.

Meanwhile, Kleber has yet to debut with Los Angeles after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks alongside Luka Doncic last trade deadline, due to injury.

In his first 34 games with the Mavericks last season, he averaged 3 points and 2.8 rebounds in roughly 18 minutes per game.
