Report: Tottenham could try to sign 'extraordinary' player from Man City in January after…

Tottenham confirmed the shock departure of their chairman, Daniel Levy, this week, but that will not stop the North London club from making a move for a Man City star in January.

Spurs were as busy as most of their Premier League rivals this summer, with their biggest addition of the window being the £52m transfer of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham were willing to spend even more to bring in Savinho from Man City, but a deal for the Brazilian could not get over the line as the Manchester club blocked the winger from leaving.

It is now being reported that Spurs are not ruling out a return for Savinho in January, despite the departure of Levy from the club, who was at the forefront of the North London outfit’s pursuit of the Brazil international.

Tottenham could return for Savinho in January

Levy met with Man City officials to discuss the transfer of Savinho after Spurs’ victory at the Etihad Stadium on August 23, and was told that it would take at least £69m for the Manchester club to become open to a deal.

Considering all the factors involved, such as the price and City not wanting the winger to leave, the deal was impossible for Tottenham to conclude; however, the North London club are not ruling out a move for the 21-year-old again in January, reports The Telegraph.

“Insiders have claimed for some time that investment has been required to pay for deals and make sure Spurs can spend in future windows, and that is now believed to be on the way,” Matt Law and Sam Wallace wrote.

“A new bid to try to sign Savinho from Manchester City in January has not been ruled out, while head coach Thomas Frank has been keen to land a new central defender.”

Pep Guardiola labelled Savinho as ‘extraordinary’ ahead of Man City’s Premier League opener with Wolves, with the winger being a key part of his plans for the 2025/26 campaign.

Therefore, signing the Brazilian in January will still be a very hard task, but one factor could change the Manchester club’s stance.

Rodrygo could play a key role in Tottenham signing Savinho

Tottenham’s chances of signing Savinho in January could increase, given how things play out during the first half of the season, because the Man City star will want to leave if he is not getting enough minutes as he hopes to be part of the Brazil squad that travels to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spurs will guarantee the 21-year-old minutes, and Man City could sanction a deal if Real Madrid’s Rodrygo makes it clear that he wants to leave the La Liga giants.

The 24-year-old has been out of favour at the Bernabeu ever since Xabi Alonso arrived during the summer, and if he feels that his chances of not going to the World Cup are strong, he could push for a move mid-season.

Man City were interested in Rodrygo during the summer, and only if the Real Madrid star becomes available will Tottenham have a chance of landing Savinho in January.
