Jadon Sancho has been warned he faces a 'make-or-break' season and told his future earnings will suffer if he fails at Aston Villa.

Villa swooped to sign Sancho from Manchester United on loan this week as the winger looks to reignite his career after a loan spell with Chelsea last season ended with him being a Europa Conference League winner.

Sancho will hope to rediscover his best form under Villa boss Unai Emery with the winger set to make his bow when the Premier League campaign resumes after the international break.

The former Manchester City player is now at a critical juncture of his career both in terms of his club and international hopes.

He was once regarded as one of the world's brightest talents, but has lost some of the sparkle that put him on everybody's radar when at Borussia Dortmund.

And former Villa striker and TalkSport pundit Gabby Agbonlahor said he needs a good season if he is to continue being among the top earners in the Premier League.

He said on talkSPORT: “His stats are obviously getting worse and worse.

“For me, his contract is up at the end of the season. I think Manchester United might have the option of an extension of one year. It’s make-or-break.

“If he doesn’t put in a top season for Aston Villa and do really well, your £350,000-a-week will go down to £50,000-a-week at your new club.

“The problem is, Rashford’s similar, one game is unbelievable, and you’re like, ‘Oh yes,’ next week, ‘Oh, you’re not running around, you don’t fancy it today?’

“That’s been the problem with Sancho, and if he does that at Aston Villa, he won’t play.”

Sancho will hope that Emery can get a tune out of the winger and said he was impressed by what he had to say following their first meeting.

"When I spoke to the manager he gave me belief and confidence,” he said during his first interview with VillaTV.

“He showed me the plan of what they want to achieve this year and it really inspired me.

“He definitely persuaded me, and I can’t wait to work under him.

“As a player and especially as a team, we have to be achieving big things.

“We have to be looking towards that, and hopefully I can help the team to achieve some of those goals.

“The team comes first, so whenever the manager needs me I’ll be ready.”
