Barcelona suffer blow as 28-year-old star leaves national team camp with glute discomfort

As was the case at the start of the last season, this first phase of this season is also seemingly going to be impacted a lot by the physical problems being suffered by some FC Barcelona players.

First, it was Robert Lewandowski who suffered a problem even before the season had started, and he has not been able to start a game yet. Then, Alejandro Balde also suffered a hamstring problem, [which is expected to keep him out of action for around a month](https://semprebarca.com/report-highlights-the-games-e60m-barcelona-player-could-miss-following-injury-blow/).

Now, alarm bells are once again ringing at the Blaugrana club as [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20250905/1002526888/frenkie-jong-abandona-concentracion-paises-bajos-molestias.html) reports that the midfielder Frenkie de Jong left the national team camp on Friday, as a statement by the Oranje team deemed him unfit to play in the upcoming game between The Netherlands and Lithuania.

De Jong had already raised concerns earlier in the week, with Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman revealing in his post-match press conference after the game against Poland that the midfielder was substituted in the 83rd minute because he felt tightness in his glute.

The 28-year-old has now returned to Barcelona, where he is expected to undergo further medical tests at the Ciutat Esportiva. The club will be hoping the issue is not serious and that De Jong can quickly rejoin the squad, with key fixtures on the horizon.

If confirmed, De Jong would become the latest victim of the international breaks that often plague Barça, adding to the loss of Balde and compounding Hansi Flick’s early-season selection headaches.
