How Southampton felt about selling Tyler Dibling to Everton and Mateus Fernandes to West Ham

Southampton were subject to two transfer sagas this summer, as they attempted to stave off interest in Tyler Dibling and Mateus Fernandes.

The Saints by the end of the transfer window had lost both men to Premier League clubs, with Tyler Dibling exiting for Everton while Mateus Fernandes made the move to London by joining West Ham.

Fans of Southampton may have been pleased that the club managed to replace them with several signings, with the key figures joining the club being Finn Azaz from Middlesbrough and Tom Fellows from West Brom.

Now, the thoughts of the Saints have been explored on the departure of both Tyler Dibling and Mateus Fernandes.

Southampton’s feelings on the exit of their stars

It is never easy to lose star players, especially when the aim is to make a return to the Premier League for Southampton; however, it should be expected for a side relegated to the Championship to lose these individuals.

As per information from our chief football correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis understands Southampton were pleased with the deals for Dibling and Fernandes.

He said: “I think £80 million for those two; they’re very happy with that.

“Obviously it enabled them to do the Tom Fellows and Finn Azaz deals, and I think in Championship terms those two are probably better placed to play in the Championship than the two that left.

“So, I think Southampton are very happy with the business they’ve done.”

Future exits expected for Southampton

While Fernandes and Dibling were the big names to leave Southampton this summer, they were not the only ones who wanted away to return to top-flight football.

The most notable names to want away were Joe Aribo and Sam Edozie; however, neither player got an exit, with it being expected they would head to Rangers and Belgium, respectively.

While they returned to training this week, there will be concern about the comments that Taylor Harwood-Bellis made as he eyes a return to the Premier League, and that may not be with Southampton in the near future.
