Reports at the end of the transfer window stated that Everton, and specifically David Moyes, had made a late attempt to sign Souček from West Ham.

It was well known that Moyes was in search of a midfielder after a busy summer, eventually signing Merlin Rohl on deadline day.

Souček had long been named as a potential target, though, having starred under Moyes at West Ham for several years and played a key role in the side that won the Europa Conference League under him.

A deal worth €15m was proposed but rejected by West Ham, and Everton seemingly decided to move on quickly and tie up a deal for Rohl instead.

Souček is now happy to admit the interest was there from his former manager, but he wanted to stay at West Ham.

_“It’s no secret that there was interest in me. It was also in the media,”_ he said.

_“I have a stable position, I now feel strength, support, recognition from the team. It was felt at the club, but in the end, both I and West Ham said no.”_
