Source reveals £15.7M reason why Manor Solomon turned down Leeds United move

Leeds United failed to bring in a player on deadline day, which enraged some fans this past week. Even though the Whites signed 10 players this summer, their ambition has been seriously questioned.

Leeds managing director Robbie Evans coming out to address what went on in the transfer window has also rubbed fans the wrong way. Many feel the club could have done more in the window, especially when it comes to the attack.

Manor Solomon was the name on the tongue of a lot of Leeds’ fans minds early in the summer. After securing promotion and the league title, everyone thought the club would push for a permanent move. But the links died down very quickly.

Solomon re-emerged as a target late in the transfer window, but this time was strongly linked to Crystal Palace despite Leeds’ interest. He eventually joined Villarreal on loan. Micky O’Rourke believes that Champions League football was the main factor for his decision.

“There’s always competition for these players’ signatures”, he told Football Insider.

“[With] Manor Solomon, Palace tried to sign him but he’s gone to Villarreal, he’s got Champions League football – Leeds can’t offer that right now.

“Obviously, Palace had money in their pockets to spend following the sale of Eberechi Eze, and the chance of European football as well.

“There’s no regrets from Daniel Farke – he will now move on and work with what he’s got, to try and ensure that Leeds are well-placed come the January window.

Every club that qualified for the Champions League group phase this season will receive around £15.7million.

What Solomon has said about joining Villarreal

The Spurs star said in an interview after the move that his priority was to stay in England. But he eventually chose the move to Spain at the last minute.

“I kept saying that my goal was to stay in England.

“I was supposed to stay. I was already close to Crystal Palace, but if I’m going to an amazing place like Villarreal, which plays in the Spanish league, which is the second best, a strong team, I’m very happy.”
