Dallas Cowboys ex-head coach rips social media rumor started by ‘sick and cruel person’

Wade Phillips is not dead.

Sadly, the long-time NFL coach had to turn to social media Friday to let his followers know that rumors and false reports spreading there were not true.

“A sick and cruel person sent this false information (to) me,”Phillips wrote on X while resharing a post that said he had passed away. “Me, my family and friends were very upset. Why would anyone want to do this? I am in good health and feel great except for this.”

The 78-year-old Phillips last served as the head coach of the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in 2024.

Phillips’ coaching career began in 1969. Known as a defensive minded coach, he had multiple stops as a defensive coordinator, and also had head coaching stints with the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.

He was the defensive coordinator in Denver when the team won the Super Bowl in 2015.

Fans and followers were quick to have Phillips back on Elon Musk’s platform.

“People suck … glad you are OK coach,” Jeff Bates wrote.

“I don’t get why people do things like this,” another person responded. “I saw this and instantly felt sadness and then felt great again. I’m disappointed in humanity.”

Glad you’re OK coach,” Ryan Dequiroz responded. “There’s some sick individuals out there.”

“I don’t get why people think this kinda thing is funny,” another added.

Phillips has an 82-64 record as an NFL head coach but he managed a playoff record of just 1-5.
