A bulk of Man United’s senior team are away on international duty.
The striker is one of 16 United players currently out on international duty with their respective countries as the World Cup qualifiers take centre stage.
Sesko signed for the Red Devils last month in a £73.7 million move from RB Leipzig. He has made three Premier League appearances since moving to England but they have all been from the bench.
With only substitute appearances under his belt so far, Sesko is still waiting to register his first goal in red. Last season, the 21-year-old scored 21 goals and registered a further six assists in all competitions for Leipzig, and fans are eager to see what he can do in his debut United season.
Benjamin Sesko earns praise after Slovenia display
Sesko started up front alongside Andraz Sporar in Slovenia’s clash against Sweden on Friday. The match ended 2-2 after an emphatic goal from Zan Vipotnik clawed back a 90th minute equaliser.
The Swansea City man came off the bench to net the goal and earned the bulk of the plaudits, but Sesko has been lauded for his efforts in the goal. While the United forward has not been officially credited with the assist for Vipotnik’s goal, Sesko played a clear part in the lead-up to the equaliser.
The 22-year-old won a battle of physicality as he wrestled with the Swedish defender to control the ball with his knee, bring it up to his head and guide it into the path of Vipotnik who fired the late goal past Robin Olsen.
Sesko’s efforts earned him praise from the Slovenian media, while Vipotnik also lauded his teammate’s efforts.
“[Sesko] did a great job, it was not easy with the tall and strong Swedish defenders. I followed his action and when I got into a shooting position, I did not hesitate. Luckily I scored,” he said via Ekipa.
Vecer gave a run-through of the result and analysed the goal in detail: “Slovenia managed another comeback. And what a comeback! After a long pass from Vanja Drkusic, Benjamin Sesko was not afraid of the defenders' grip, tamed the ball, first with his knee, then with his head, to Zan Vipotnik.”
