[Voetbal Primeur](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuws/1689702/verbruggen-had-ontmoeting-met-van-de-sar.html) cover comments from the Brighton goalkeeper today in an interview with De Telegraaf, in which he reveals a summer chat with the Dutch goalkeeping icon.

Van der Sar is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the game after a career that saw him play for Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and Manchester United as well as 130 times for the Netherlands.

His time at Manchester United was undoubtedly his most successful as he won the Champions League, Club World Cup, four Premier League titles and three Community Shields in a spell that saw him keep 135 clean sheets in 266 games for the club.

He as also highly successful at Ajax, winning the Champions League in 1995, the UEFA Cup in 1992, four Eredivisie titles, three Dutch cup and Super Cups and the Intercontinental Cup.

Verbruggen will be dreaming of a career like that, at Brighton or elsewhere, and was keen to take advice from his compatriot when they met.

“Last summer, I met Edwin van der Sar at the physiotherapist’s in Amsterdam. We had the opportunity to talk about goalkeeping, and I took the chance to ask a few questions,” he said.

“Edwin told me about his experiences in the Premier League, his perspective on certain things, and that was fantastic.

“He’s obviously one of the best Dutch goalkeepers ever, played 130 international matches, and won Champions Leagues. Fantastic. Just by watching him, I could learn a lot from him. He definitely gave me some tips, but I’ll keep those between us. I’m grateful that he took the time to talk to me. And if I ever want to talk to him again, he’ll be happy to hear from me.”
