Manchester City add two new signings from their Premier League rivals to the club.
The transfer window slammed shut on Monday after a whirlwind summer. Deadline Day brought significant action, as clubs finalised blockbuster deals in the late hours, including City’s move for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Pep Guardiola’s side agreed a £26 million fee for the Italian, who joins the club from Paris Saint-Germain as Ederson left for Fenerbahce after eight years in Manchester.
Deadline Day also saw a new British transfer record as Liverpool finally signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Man City ‘finalise’ signings from Tottenham and Aston Villa
The summer transfer window may have closed but clubs are still able to sign Academy players despite the deadline expiring. Man City had been linked with exciting youngsters Dexter Oliver and Freddie Lawrie and now, according to Fabrizio Romano, they have completed the signings of the duo.
Manchester City have finalised the signings of Dexter Oliver and Freddie Lawrie from Tottenham and Aston Villa. Two more signings for MCFC Academy,” the transfer expert wrote on social media.
Both players have been earmarked as talents for the future. Oliver, 16, made seven appearances for Tottenham in the U18 Premier League last season and contributed two assists from midfield.
Lawrie is also just 16 years of age but the centre-back enjoyed regular appearances for England’s U16 side during international friendlies last season.
City’s active pursuit of bright young talent shows their commitment to pushing exciting players through the Academy in the future.
Man City add to impressive transfer haul
The summer transfer window was an exciting one all round as clubs worked hard on bolstering their squads ahead of another thrilling season.
Premier League clubs set a new record for money spent in a single transfer window, with a hefty £3.19 billion combined splashed on new signings throughout the division.
City opened their summer portfolio up with Rayan Ait-Nouri as their first signing of the window. The full-back penned a five-year deal after making the switch from Premier League rivals Wolves, who also sold Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.
City brought in seven new signings overall during the summer, with Tijjani Reijnders costing the most in his £46.5 million move from AC Milan.
Rayan Cherki arrived from Lyon, with former Ligue 1 rival Donnarumma also joining from France. Sverre Nypan joined from Rosenborg, while City agreed further deals with Premier League rivals for James Trafford and Marcus Bettinelli.
Trafford has immediately become City’s number one in goal since his move from new boys Burnley. Meanwhile, 33-year-old Bettinelli joins the club on a one-year deal, seemingly replacing veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson.
City have lost their last two Premier League fixtures and are way down the table after the first three games. Defeats to Spurs and Brighton have been far from the ideal run of results for Guardiola, but a blockbuster Manchester Derby awaits them after the international break ends.
