Manchester United will reportedly trigger the clause that will extend Jadon Sancho’s contract by 12 months, as he has entered the final year of his deal.
According to a report by Football Insider, Jadon Sancho has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Manchester United. So, with the English international completing a season-long loan move to Aston Villa, the struggling Premier League giants are in a spot of bother over the prospect of recouping something from his permanent departure.
However, the Red Devils are ready to trigger a one-year extension clause in Sancho’s contract, thus adding 12 more months to his deal. That will enable Manchester United to safeguard the Englishman’s value and recoup something from his permanent exit next summer.
Jadon Sancho and his latest loan move
Jadon Sancho has been one of the worst signings in Manchester United’s storied history, as he has barely made his mark since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. Additionally, his conduct off the pitch has been horrendous, with a run-in with Erik ten Hag two years ago sealing his fate at Old Trafford. However, the 25-year-old has yet to complete a permanent exit, spending the last 18 months on loan spells.
The English international showed flashes of brilliance during his loan stint with Chelsea before a permanent deal failed to materialise this past summer. Sancho managed only five goals and ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions before returning to Old Trafford. While Manchester United wanted a permanent exit, the player made things difficult for them before sealing a deadline-day loan move to Aston Villa.
Aston Villa will hope Sancho impresses this season
Aston Villa’s interest in Jadon Sancho was understandable. The Villans were eager to bolster their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing multiple attackers, as Unai Emery wanted the club to fill the void that Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio left when their loan spells ended. So, while Evann Guessand arrived from OGC Nice, Aston Villa pursued another attacking addition.
While Aston Villa wanted to re-sign Asensio and discussed a deal for several weeks, the Spanish international has joined Fenerbahce. So, Sancho emerged as a viable alternative late in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa and Manchester United quickly negotiating a deadline-day move for the 25-year-old Englishman.
Sancho has completed his season-long loan move to Aston Villa. However, his contract situation has compelled Manchester United to mull over triggering the clause that extends his deal by 12 months. That will enable Manchester United to safeguard the troublemaker’s value and recoup something from his permanent exit next summer.
