Trabzonspor have increased their offer to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
The Cameroon international has fallen out of favour at the Red Devils this season. He has made just one appearance in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town.
Altay Bayindir has been the regular starter in the Premier League, but he could be replaced by Senne Lammens, who arrived from Antwerp on deadline day.
Hence, Onana could be demoted to the third choice in the goalkeeping department, and it remains to be seen whether he contemplates an exit in the near future.
Sabuncuoglu today claims that Trabzonspor have ‘increased their offer’ to land Onana. It is not specified whether they are eyeing a permanent or temporary deal.
Onana may not be tempted to join Trabzonspor
The 29-year-old has been the mainstay in the Red Devils’ goal over the past two seasons.
He has had several standout performances, but they have coincided with multiple average outings.
The former Inter Milan man has made 12 errors leading to shots and eight errors leading to goals in the last two years, more than any other Premier League goalkeeper.
United have opted for a new solution in Lammens between the sticks. The Belgian has tremendous reflexes and made an average of 4.2 saves per game last term.
The 23-year-old is also good with the ball at his feet and has excelled with his long-ball distribution. Lammens could become United’s undisputed goalkeeper soon.
Despite this, Onana may not contemplate a move to the Super Lig.
The goalkeeper, who was signed for £47 million from Inter, recently turned down a proposal from Turkish champions Galatasaray to fight for his place at the Red Devils.
Based on this alone, we would be surprised if he were to give the green light to join Trabzonspor. They have a less talented squad compared to the reigning Super Lig champions.
