Toni Kroos has made a damning claim about Alexander Isak following his £125m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool on deadline day.
There is no doubt that the 25-year-old’s transfer saga was the story of the summer. Very few could have predicted what was going to happen with Alexander Isak before his move on deadline day.
In the end, the Sweden international left Newcastle United for Liverpool in a British record transfer deal of around £125m.
Newcastle released a blunt statement confirming Isak’s departure, with the club’s media team writing just 37 words, with none of them being ‘thank you’.
Despite that, Isak shared an emotional farewell message, though he also forgot to include an apology to the fans for how the summer saga went down. Isak has a big price tag to live up to, and former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is well aware of that.

Toni Kroos suggests Liverpool overpaid for Alexander Isak
In a bizarre twist, Kroos has recently shared his admiration for Newcastle, having seen the fans inside St James’ Park when they played Liverpool in August.
Head coach Eddie Howe was delighted with Kroos’ comments, admitting he was taken aback by what he had said.
The German has now come out and defended Newcastle’s honour once again, by suggesting they are onto a winner after receiving a gargantuan fee for Isak.

“I trust our listeners, but I’d say that roughly half of them have never even heard of Isak,” he said on his podcast
“Judge for yourselves, seriously.
“Yes. It’s a lot of money, without a doubt.”
Newcastle United must invest the Alexander Isak money wisely
Thanks to Howe’s sensational coaching, Newcastle doubled their money for Isak, and have already signed two strikers to replace him. Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade are Newcastle’s two new frontmen for the 2025/26 season, and the hope is that they will bring the same number of goals Isak did during his three years on Tyneside.
Newcastle’s sale of Isak was deemed ‘transformative‘, with the profit from the deal a major beneficiary for their PSR stance. The club looked to be in a good position anyway, but now their headroom has been inflated significantly.
Isak’s lucrative departure adds to the sale of Sean Longstaff, who gave the club a handy £15m profit when his move to Leeds United was confirmed.
Fans saw the true potential of PIF’s spending through the summer, and will likely see it again in January and beyond. However, Howe and his recruitment team must spend the funds wisely and ensure that whoever is brought in is the right player to take the club forward.
