Former Steelers offensive tackle could miss revenge game with Jets after injury

Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Chuks Okorafor is now with the New York Jets, but he could miss a revenge game opportunity.

Okorafor has a hand injury and was limited in practice all week. The Jets listed him as questionable heading into the game. They are missing depth offensive tackle Esa Pole with an ankle injury.

Okorafor played just one game this last season after he left the New England Patriots following the opener.

Okorafor unexpectedly left the team after he was benched during the team’s Week 1 game. He struggled during the preseason and Week 1, with Vederian Lowe taking over after a lackluster effort. He was called for multiple illegal formation rules under the NFL’s new emphasis while trying to crack down on offensive linemen getting head starts on pass rushers.

The Steelers drafted Okorafor in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons with the Steelers, starting out as their swing tackle and eventually growing into the starting right tackle. He was benched midyear for Broderick Jones, and the team released him in March of 2024.

Now, he is the swing tackle for the Jets, a comfortable position behind two young tackles that will have their bumps and bruises along the way.
