Nick Woltemade’s transfer from Stuttgart to Newcastle United was completed within days.
Newcastle United supporters weren’t the only ones left stunned by Nick Woltemade’s move to Tyneside.
There had been no mention of the 6ft 6in German striker in the media until news broke of Newcastle’s £69million club-record agreement with Stuttgart last Thursday.
A few hours or so later, Woltemade then hopped on a private jet to Newcastle to undergo his medical and finalise the transfer, putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
And the speed at which the deal was completed didn’t just catch Newcastle fans off guard, but Woltemade’s Stuttgart teammates, too.
Forty-eight hours later, Woltemade had just featured for Stuttgart in their DFB-Pokal first round penalty shootout win over Eintracht Braunschweig before focus turned to the Bundesliga clash against Borussia Monchengladbach.
But on the day of the Monchengladbach match, Woltemade was officially announced as a Newcastle player and watched the goalless draw at Leeds United from the stands.

“It wasn't something the team could have predicted, either, from what I heard in the locker room. No one was informed beforehand; it came as a surprise to everyone.
