One more season? The 'truth' behind Saudi Arabia's Fernandes pursuit

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reportedly turned down three approaches from Saudi Pro League clubs during the summer transfer window, with the Portuguese determined to remain at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has been one of Man United's best-ever signings, scoring 99 goals and registering 86 assists in 294 appearances for the 20-time English champions since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

The 30-year-old scored his first goal of the season last time out against Burnley, with his last-gasp penalty handing the Red Devils a 3-2 success over Scott Parker's side at Old Trafford.

Fernandes' future was the subject of speculation over the summer, and according to talkSPORT, the attacker turned down approaches from three Saudi Pro League clubs during the recent market.

The report claims that Al-Hilal made an attempt to sign Fernandes before the Club World Cup, with his agent Miguel Pinho said to have been in Saudi Arabia for a series of meetings.

Fernandes 'rejected three Saudi approaches' over summer

Al-Hilal allegedly never made a concrete offer for Fernandes but did make it clear that they would be willing to pay over £80m in order to sign the attacker during the summer market.

Fernandes' desire to enter the 2026 World Cup in the best possible fitness is believed to have played a role in him deciding to continue in European football for at least one more season.

Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are also said to have made offers for Fernandes, but the player once again made it clear to both clubs that he would be remaining at Old Trafford for another season.

Jorge Jesus, who is the head coach of Al-Nassr, discussed the interest in Fernandes last month.

"I wanted to [sign him], but Bruno is determined to stay,” Jesus told Sport Informa. “We already talked last year. This year I knew he had made the decision to continue with [Ruben] Amorim."

Is this Fernandes' final season at Man United?

Fernandes will reportedly seriously consider a move away from Man United at the end of the season.

Al-Nassr attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, who now owns some of the club, is believed to be in constant contact with his former Man United and current Portugal teammate over a switch to the Saudi Pro League side.

Fernandes would receive one of the largest salaries of all time for a footballer if he were to make the move to Saudi Arabia next summer, and he could decide to finish his career in the lucrative division.

Man United would also still be in a position to demand a large transfer fee, and a sale in the region of £80m would be incredibly valuable for the Red Devils considering that his contact is due to expire in June 2027.
