Bears uncertain on CB Jaylon Johnson, unlikely to have LB T.J. Edwards vs. Vikings

Bears coach Ben Johnson said injured cornerback Jaylon Johnson is trending positively, but remained uncertain as to whether he’ll be available Monday against the Vikings. Linebacker T.J. Edwards, meanwhile, will be listed as doubtful when the injury report comes out Saturday.

Jaylon Johnson has gotten increasingly more snaps in practice, which is a good sign, but Ben Johnson was noncommittal about his status before practice Saturday. He hinted that he’ll be designated as questionable.

Johnson said Tuesday his conditioning wasn’t good enough yet to play, but hoped it would improve as the week went on.

Edwards and Jaylon Johnson are two of the Bears’ most important and dependable defensive players. They both started every game last season, and Edwards played 99% of the defensive snaps and Johnson played 96%.

Johnson is arguably the Bears’ best player at any position and is especially crucial against the Vikings and elite wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The Bears likely would assign Johnson to stay on him for most or all of the game.
