Schumacher | We Needed That

Steven Schumacher was happy to see Wanderers turn one point into three as the Whites moved into the top 10, _writes Pete Oliver_.

Schumacher’s men ended a run of four successive League One draws with a [comfortable 3-0 victory](https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/report-wanderers-3-afc-wimbledon-0) over Wimbledon to move within three points of the top-six places.

The Whites are now unbeaten in eight games across three competitions (bar a penalty shoot-out exit from the Carabao Cup) with Schumacher pleased that run now shows another win.

“It was important as well that we got the three points,” said the head coach after a second home league win of the campaign. “We said all season, really, how well we've been doing but we needed to find a way to turn good performances into victories.

“I didn't think we played as well today. Certainly, in the first half, I thought it was a little bit slow and a little bit scruffy at times from both teams, but it just shows the importance of scoring from set-plays.

“That got us the first goal, got us ahead, and then obviously the sending off changed it. That made it a little bit more easy than what it would have been. But it's a victory, it's three points, and yeah, we're happy. We didn't want to fall too far behind the pack.

“It depends on how you want to spin it. We were unbeaten since the opening day and now it looks different. As I said, those four 1-1 draws were frustrating for different reasons. We were happy in the end of the Lincoln game with the last-minute goal but we were disappointed with Reading.

“That's how it is. It's going to be ups and downs in the season, but we've just got to keep consistent with what we're trying to do, keep asking the players to keep trying to play the way we want them to play and really focus on that defensive aspect from it. If we do that, we'll be fine.”

Wanderers completed a second clean sheet in the league after Wimbledon saw Marcus Browne sent off for a poor challenge on Max Conway and then finished the game with nine men following a second yellow card for defender Joe Lewis.

The Dons were already trailing when Browne saw red just after the break with Mason Burstow putting the Whites’ ahead with another close-range finish to register his fourth goal of the season.

Amario Cozier-Duberry capped another exciting display with the second before Joal Randall’s first goal of the season completed the scoring after top scorer Burstow had succumbed to a hamstring injury which Schumacher hopes isn’t serious.

“It’s funny. When you get onto a bit of rhythm like that, especially for centre-forwards, everything just seems to fall for you,” added the Whites’ boss. “He's got four in seven and he's been a really good player for us. The only issue is, once he passed that ball out for the second goal, he felt his hamstring so we'll have to see how he is.

“I think Joel Randall could have had two in the last game here at home. The keeper made two good saves from him and he keeps getting into dangerous areas. He is one of those players, like, a lot of number 10s, when it's going for you then your little passes that you slide through look amazing.

“If it doesn't go for you people can get frustrated but I just keep telling him to keep working hard and keep getting himself into the right areas and something will fall for him. Today, he scored a scruffy goal, if you like, but he's in the right place to turn it home.

“Again, that could be the turning point for him hopefully it gives him a bit of confidence and young Amario has been great, hasn't he, all season for us? He just needs to keep working on that end product-based and decision-making and today it was a great goal and it made us win the game.”
