Chelsea remain interested in Barcelona star

Chelsea make the short trip to face West London rivals Brentford in the Premier League on September 13.

The Blues have won two of their three matches so far this season, having drawn 0-0 against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Enzo Maresca will be relatively pleased with his side’s art to the campaign, although the London side will be without striker Liam Delap against the Bees after the ex-Ipswich Town man suffered an injury against Fulham last time out.

Delap was one of Chelsea’s summer signings, along with the likes of Joao Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho.

Now, it has emerged that the Blues remain interested in a La Liga star that they failed to sign this summer.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are still interested in Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez.

The West London side lodged an offer in the region of £35 million for the Spaniard towards the end of the summer transfer window, having been in talks with the player’s agents.

It is claimed that Chelsea were aware that their offer was unlikely to be accepted and that agreeing a deal would be very difficult, but they made the bid regardless.

Lopez, 22, is a product of Barcelona’s youth system and has now made 90 appearances for the club at senior level, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists.

The report claims that the player himself has made his love for the Spanish side clear, suggesting he has no intention of leaving his boyhood club any time soon.

The Spain international’s contract with Barcelona is set to run until the end of the 2028/29 season, but Chelsea are said to still be interested in the player and it therefore remains to be seen whether or not the London side will revisit the possibility of a move.
