Manchester United cut ties with a whole host of players over the course of the summer window
Manchester United ended up having a busy summer on both the incomings and outgoings front. They boosted their ranks by bringing in the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, among others. The Red Devils let some players head out the exit door at Old Trafford too to fund their transfer business.
Ruben Amorim’s side have four points on the board from their first three Premier League fixtures. They have lost to Arsenal, drawn to Fulham and beaten Burnley so far. Next up is an away trip to Manchester City after the international break. In the meantime, here is a look at how their departed players have fared...
Manchester United defensive and midfield exits
Jonny Evans’ contract at United expired at the end of the last campaign. The 37-year-old provided useful back-up in defence over recent times and will have been a useful player to have in and around the dressing room. He has now hung up his boots and now holds a role in the club’s youth development set-up.
Victor Lindelof cut ties with the Red Devils in late June and became a free agent. The Sweden international has since been weighing up his options over recent times. He has now been snapped up by fellow top flight side Aston Villa and is awaiting his debut for the Midlands outfit.
Meanwhile, left-back Harry Amass has linked up with Sheffield Wednesday in the second tier as well. The youngster will be eyeing as much game time as possible with the Owls. He is in line to make his debut against Bristol City next weekend.
Midfielder Toby Collyer was given the green light to link up with West Brom on loan in the Championship. United have let him depart to get some experience under his belt with the Baggies. He has made three appearances so far since his switch to The Hawthorns and is being managed by ex-Tottenham Hotspur man Ryan Mason. Dan Gore has played once since going back to Rotherham United.
Manchester United attacking departures
United made the decision to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea. His sale has freed up space and funds in their squad. He is awaiting his debut for the Blues and will be eager to show what he can do at Stamford Bridge.
Antony has quit the Red Devils to re-join Real Betis on a permanent basis. He spent time with the La Liga club on a temporary basis last term and has now gone back there full-time. The 25-year-old hasn’t featured yet since he went back to Spain.
Rasmus Hojlund has fallen down the pecking order at United following their attacking signings. Therefore, he has signed for Napoli on loan. The Dane will be eyeing his first appearance in Serie A next Saturday against Fiorentina. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho has also been loaned to Aston Villa but hasn’t played yet.
Marcus Rashford has become surplus to requirements under Amorim. He was loaned to Aston Villa last winter to get some game time. Barcelona came calling in July and he has since played three times without scoring. Elsewhere, Christian Eriksen remains a free agent after leaving the Red Devils, whilst Ethan Wheatley has scored one goal in six outings for Northampton Town in League One.
