Packers' Micah Parsons (back; questionable) expected to play vs. Lions

The centerpiece of one of the NFL's most stunning trades in years is expected to be on the field for Week 1.

Micah Parsons, who was listed as questionable to play due to a back injury, is expected to be active for Green Bay Packers' season opener against the visiting Detroit Lions on Sunday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday.

Parsons was limited throughout the week during practice, and his back issue has been a nagging ailment since before Green Bay's blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys took place.

Parsons' availability is no doubt a boon for the Packers, but just how much he plays will remain in question until kickoff.

Rapoport reported on Saturday that Parsons is expected to primarily focus on rushing the passer vs. the Lions, and a full compliment of plays for Parsons will follow a ramp-up period.

One of the game's premier pass rushers, Parsons heads into Sunday with 52.5 career sacks. Four of those sacks have come in his last three season openers. He'll be aiming for another stellar start to the season -- and his Packers tenure.

Parsons and Green Bay kick off against Detroit at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
