Following the news that West Ham’s German striker [Niclas Fulkrug](https://www.claretandhugh.info/just-like-fullkrug-west-ham-eye-german-wonderkid-after-u21-euro-heroics/) had withdrawn from his countries international yesterday – and was returning to West Ham for treatment on a calf injury, there was predictable anxiety from the club and fans alike as the spectre of Fullkrug’s last ‘calf injury’ raised its ugly head again: The striker ended up with a three month absence at exactly the same time last season. Lightning striking twice?
The wisdom of not signing a frontman under thirty was again questioned. However the early prognosis has been determined and published and you’d hope that the news is positive.
From _hammers.news_ comes the report that a club spokesman was quite bullish about Fullkkrug;s recovery time and the nature of his injury which has now been assessed by the Hammers team: _“Thankfully Fullkrug’s injury, from what we understand, doesn’t look much.”_ was the verdict from within the club.
There is an expectation that Fullkrug will be absent for the Spurs game next weekend – but hopefully fit again thereafter for the fixtures against Crystal Palace on the 20th September and away at Everton on the 29th September. So fingers crossed the muscle injury appears NOT to be a recurrence of the serious issue that plagued him for the first half of last season.
